Managing of each indivdual trooper stats and what eqipmenr they use , as well as base and multiple bases construction, location on the globe, and economic management. You're also in charge of sending out fighters from your bases to intercept and shoot down UFOs, then sending a dropship filled with troops and possibly a tank if you want to the crash site to capture or kill any alien crew whom might have survived the crash on a turn based randomly generated battle map.

You're then able to research any aliens or tech you might have recovered to develop your own better stuff to use in the ongoingwar against them. It's truly one of the best stratgey games I've ever played, and definitely the deepest on PS1. We played Red Alert multiplayer using the PS1 link cable. But just because I played certain games during my childhood doesn't mean those games are good today. Or that they were ever good in the first place. Or that they were ever good in the first place You know They hold up very well.
