A lot of people is having problem setting up a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse on the Raspberry PI. Things get more complicated when your wired keyboard or mouse does not work or prevent your Bluetooth dongle from working. There is hope. This step by step procedure will let you install them or at a minimum let you know what does not work. It uses only the command line interface. It is targeted for the Wheezy Debian distribution. What is the command to remove the device and try again?
With minor modifications, this procedure also works for a BeagleBone Black running Debian still Wheezy as of 28 Nov One only needs to modify how one becomes root and the procedure works. Thanks a lot, this worked with a plain euro Carrefour Keyboard. Just had to type the same password on the BT keyboard as the one provided to the bluez-test-input connect command.
Thanks alot! Any ideas? You can hit control-W to search for keyboard and replace that string. I also seem to have a problem with the hcitool line. Hi, I have the same problem when following Your instruction. This tutorial is clean and simple and the only one about the subject that I could find that is complete and correct.
It deserves a lot more attention. I confirm that the tutorial also works for a Maxxter KB-BT keyboard, which is a really cheap device but it works without a problem. I have tried setting this up several different ways and the problem always lies with the hcitool line.
NOTE: Up to this point things seems to be going well. The RazPi sees my dongle Device Is your USB port adaptor powered?
If not, try removing it. There is a limit on how much power the Raspberry PI can supply. So, plug only a keyboard and the Bluetooth Dongle. Everything in the instructions works great … until I reboot.
When I try to enable dbus using the command you showed me, my system responds with: update-rc. When it asks for a PIN on Raspbmc, you type in whatever you want, then hit enter, then immediately type the same thing in on your other device and hit enter as well. They will then be connected. Ignore the dbus error you receive. I got that too and it works without a problem. This procedure also worked on a Merkury iPad keyboard. Thanks for posting!
As for pairing, make sure you turn the device on and press the button on the underside with a pen before using the hcitool scan command. Pairng took a few tries on the pin step as i might have been too slow. This is how it should look like:. This is how it looks like when you are too slow: Creating device failed: org.
NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken. I had that problem too. I just continued on to the next steps.
Maybe this step had something to do with my current dilemma. I was able to follow all the steps. My keyboard is connected and listed as a trusted device. I noticed that there was a reference near the end of the Pi bootup sequence text to a file called frameworkd. Now hcitool scan works for me and my mouse and keyboard reconnect on startup. I have managed to login from the command prompt via bluetooth!
Interface bus. DBusException: org. ServiceUnknown: The name org. First off, thanks for a great guide. Secondly, in case anyone else out there is struggling with a Cambridge Silicon chipset — 0a — I found it was possible to skip the hcitool scan not found problem. This keyboard delay really messes up my gaming. Othewise all other features are good. My rocketfish mouse works perfectly, but I had the same keyboard problems as Peter. After days of unsuccessful web browsing and troubleshooting, I finally found a workaround.
Here are the steps I took:. A Unplug the dongle and uninstall the product software. The lights in both devices should stop flashing after a while and the devices should now be paired in HID mode. C Load windows. If your bluetooth dongle is auto-detected, do not install it. If you do, the device will go back to HCI mode. Instead, press cancel. Keyboard sleepmode would be less annoying if the first key pressed was recognized e. About the same amount of wake up time delay about two seconds, plus skipped key between which device you want to use.
The only thing worse than standing still and shooting in a first person shooter game is standing still for two seconds before you can shoot because by then either you are dead or the target is gone. Despite the initial problem, I really do like the setup. I use it to move back and forth between my computer setup in the den and the home theater next to it that is connected to the same computer.
Works really slick and I am able to use the keyboard and mouse in the other room from about 12 ft away without issue or delays.
Regarding the response delays, I have experienced the same thing. Whenever I sit down to type or use the mouse after a period of idle time 15 minutes or more maybe? After that it works flawlessly from then on until another period of idle time passes.
I also experienced the delays, but was dealing with it. After about a year of use though, the sides of the mouse came unglued and you get sticky stuff all over your fingers. Also the common keys on the keyboard have faded. The product is clearly not made to be used long-term several years. I have had problems with the keyboard and mouse since I purchased it. The mouse would be unresponsive for seconds and then it would work. Then it would get sluggish for a while.
The Keyboard would disconnect and then I would have to reconnect by switching the USB connector around. I looked at the XP drivers and they were Broadcom Three year old drivers are to old to be on a new keyboard. I found that I needed a GBU driver set for my combination. I am completely happy now with my Rocketfish combo. After the install my drivers are updated to The keyboard still hybernates to save batteries.
I hope this helps the rest of you. I love my Rocketfish keyboard. Lags like hell, Freezes frequently, I have to reboot every so often because the keyboard stops responding. Trust me. Although, I have noticed that it will buffer about 11 keystrokes. If you are a slow typer this delay will not bother you as much. Good news for us who don't like living with just the "normal".
