I think personally that a serial criminal is a kind of person who does not have boundaries in his mind and morals, as simple as that. Most of us are not a criminals because since we were children, our family taught that society have rules and punishments for bad things.
Unconsciously we have that fear of not doing what is correct, the fear of being punished for our actions. We may think about criminal things but almost everyone concentrate their minds in the causes of doing that, and how could those actions affect everyone around.
So a serial killer is just a person that does not have straight links to society. They does not think in how their actions can affect others. Deep inside, they may think murdering is correct. One last thing: Society does not hold us at first, we have to arrange ourselves to be hold by society. And remember every human being is different, in their own way of thinking, perceiving, learning and feeling. This may be the main causes for every single type of person refering serial killers.

While out on a day pass, he and his security guard escort -- who was also a previously imprisoned killer -- killed another patient.
Until we know more about how to stop serial killers before they start to kill or refine ways of capturing them before they continue the cycle of murder, they will continue to be as much a part of reality as murder itself.
