Sorry BIT. The core see what I did there concept here is simplistic yet satisfying, and the music in CORE is probably in the top three of the saga alone. I also found it to be one of the more forgiving games of the series, which is always a plus with how hard things can get.
Sure, it feels great to get each level down to a T, but it also takes many failed attempts and muttered swearwords.
Another big surprise for me is that BIT. VOID has you controlling a big black void and avoiding white beats whilst trying to collect the black beats. Out of all of the BIT. TRIP games, I think this one melds music, gameplay and story the best to create something truly memorable. It really does feel like a send-off to the saga, and the perfect encapsulation of everything that BIT. TRIP is- fantastic music, fantastic gameplay, great visuals and interesting background themes.

Driving through the American desert you get a real sense of isolation and space.
The land is dry with grassy, bushy plants covering the sand. Rocky mountains surround you as you drive along the miles of straight, rolling asphalt. Sometimes the desert is interspersed by bits of civilisation like farms that have transformed the dust into grass with the help of sprinklers. There is also the occasional decrepit town like the one we stopped at for a picnic lunch.
Yet, you still wonder how they survive, especially in the baking heat that gives you the feeling of being roasted in an oven and an appreciation for air conditioning! A highlight of the drive was going along the ex-terrestrial highway and stopping at the slightly loopy town of Rachel, where there have been supposed sightings of aliens and hype surrounding the nearby Area Our final stop for the night was the town of Caliente which means hot in Spanish for those who want to know.
It seemed like an oasis with its clean pavements I mean sidewalks , green cut grass, colourful roses and Spanish style train station. The hot bath and soft mattress were also very much welcomed! We ate dinner at a diner and in a booth! Posted in Great Basin Desert. Our second day brought an earlier start as we planned to go see the ancient sequoia trees.
They are a species of redwood, that are related the tall redwoods further north. The sequoias are notorious for their wide trunks and their life span of thousands of years.
At our starting destination many of us were quick to use the lavatories before we started our hike only to find that they were actually holes in the ground decorated with a toilet seat on top. We were promised a more gentle climb today which would allow us to see some of the famous sequoia trees and end at an amazing vantage point.
Our first tree stop was the Grizzly Giant, which got its name from its wide trunk and thick branches that stuck out from it. After a photograph stop we made our way to the next tree which was the California tunnel tree. This sequoia had a gap through its trunk that was so big a car could drive through. Although in my opinion I saw no big american land cruiser getting through there without a tight squeeze.
We were joined on our hike by the family from Leeds which brought about some laughs especially when Ben and Paul traversed a fallen tree trunk over a deep pit that we concluded would be filled with snakes.
We also met up with our trek leader Alex who seemed to be a very experienced hiker. As we rested further up at the museum we were able to learn a host of information about the trees from a knowledgeable helper at the museum.
She pointed us in the direction of the telescope tree where we found an amazing phenomenon. The tree had split down the middle so you could look up through the passage to the sky, like a telescope. From there we hiked up to the vantage point, but not before visiting the fallen tunnel tree. The gradient was easy up to the top and the shade created by the surrounding trees created a pleasurable hike.
At 5, feet above see level we got a great view of the park from the vantage point. We had a quick lunch before heading back down along a slightly different trail that would encompass some new trees.
We were able to view the faithful couple; this was a pair of the trees that had grown joined together. After we were pleased to find that according to the signs we were only 0. That evening Dad and I made the meal with our chosen dish being chili con carne. Although it ended out perfectly tasty there were some difficulties in making it.
First the usually solid chorizo sausage disintegrated in the pan. Also whilst chopping the vegetables we were constantly pestered by wasps although we did have helpers on hand to counter them. Overall it was a nice, less testing day than before.
In addition after dinner the card game of Mafia brought a host of laughs mostly from the children , due to our favourite card character, Charlene! Posted in Yosemite. Permalink 4 Comments. To start our first full say in Yosemite we were all a bit unprepared for the coldness during the night and in the morning.
After breakfast we took an hour long drive to our Curry Village where we would start our hike. We had a choice of routes beginner or expert , so in true Schenk fashion we took the harder walk that would take us by 2 waterfalls.
Also in the same true fashion we were the first family to set off! However a lot of the crowd seemed to be mingling at the first bridge and taking pictures of the waterfall in the distance. We stormed on as the path got a little harder…. The steps seemed to get more laborious as they became taller and bigger; this meant more water and air stops had to be scheduled. However with every step we got closer to the gushing Vernal falls.
We all made it to the top and had climbed a whopping 1, feet, meaning we all deserved a rest. Yet with encouragement from Uncle Ev we started on our way to the Nevada Falls which was at another feet. The beginning was pleasant and the crowds had definitely dispersed with most getting to the first falls or even just the bridge!
However as we got higher up to some more rocky steps we started feeling the fatigue of being in the sun and at a higher altitude. It seemed the path kept winding up and up; this made it feel longer and more warying. However as we got the top the path plateaued and we could walk across to our lunch stop at the top of the falls. This worried Phoebe greatly and left her anxious for the rest of the hike! We had an enjoyable lunch because we were granted breathtaking views of the mountains and national park.
Just before we left we greeted the Leeds family, who had just made it to the top; followed by the Butterworth family and their three girls five minutes later. Although the way down had an easier gradient, it seemed to wind on forever down the mountain.
Also smooth rocks peppered along the path were covered in sand and gravel that did nothing for grip and were a great way to get a twisted or broken ankle!
However once at the bottom there was a sense of accomplishment and I got the reward of ice cream and Phoebe of a milkshake. Waking up early for the start of our trek we made our way to the Holiday Inn where we would finally see who we were going to spend the next 10 days with. However when we arrived, although nervous, it was clear to see the families all looked nice and pleasant. Our trek leader also gave a good impression of being quite laid back and cool!
Nonetheless it gave us the chance to see the bridge in a different light if not a more misty light and gave phoebe the opportunity to take more pictures which she could not turn down. Afterwards we started the long drive to Yosemite National Park. This gave us a chance to get to know and chat with the other families. We also had stops for a picnic and a trip to Walmart to stock up on essentials like waterproofs and multicoloured towels!
As the sun started setting we arrived at our campsite which it is fair to say was a little dusty. However this was overcome as we faced the next mission, putting up our tents.
Some struggled, but all exceeded when they listened to the actual simple instructions given. Whilst dinner was being made the children bonded over a game of Ultimate Frisbee. Although I did try to educate them on the actual rules of the game, these seemed to fly out the window as soon as we started with people running with the disk and people wrestling in the dirt for it.
Nevertheless it was extremely funny and entertaining. We also all got a nice bronzing tan…. The first night in the tent was a new experience for some. We had to contend with sleeping on a thin inflatable mattress and the awkward toilet trips that included trying not to get attacked by a bear or being bitten by a rattlesnake! Posted in San Francisco , Yosemite. Permalink 1 Comment. With only one day in San Francisco we had to pack in the sights…… and fast!
After an early start we hiked up the steep slopes of the city, which left me breathless at what the local residents have to contend with. With steep hills and a time restriction it took some debating.
However in the end we decide to do the Golden Gate Bridge bike ride. Although we had to navigate other cyclists on the surprisingly thin path and had constant traffic beside us, the ride I believe was a great one.
With only a short boat ride we were soon on the infamous penitentiary covered in bird poop island. Everything was decrepit, but you could still imagine what it must have been like to be there. The cell house with the rows of abandoned cells created an ominous atmosphere, but this was lightened by the audio tour.
It took you round the prison telling you about all the parts like solitary confinement more like a black hole and the cafeteria the most dangerous part of the prison! Standing on the island looking out to the city, which is only a mile or so away, gave you a sense of desperation the prisoners must have felt with freedom being so close, but untouchable. Although three prisoners did actually manage this with an ingenious escape plan, but it is mostly speculated they drowned as the strong currents took them out to sea.
Overall it was tiring, but an interesting day. The evening was filled with anticipation and speculation over our National Park tour over the next 10 days. Posted in San Francisco. And only 4 were left to continue the journey to San Francisco.
Unfortunately, Ellie was the only one lucky enough to escape scum class taking a tip from Jeremy Clarkson here with my Dad. So I alone, feasted on frozen yogurt for breakfast; because as you can tell, health is a big part of my life. Finally, we arrived in San Francisco, a place full of bright lights, racing people and seemed to be the main hub of all the homeless with character in America.
After checking in and as always, abusing the Wifi privileges, we met up with a small part of the Schenk more Shepherd clan that lived in the Great US of A, Ian and his partner, Lynne.
