When I hit f11, I do get options and one is to Recover, but C: is now so small, I cannot use that option. I need to be able to change the letter back to the original and then Recover should work properly. It could be due to the display drivers or resolution.
So, I would suggest you to try the steps provided below and see if it helps. Try to boot the computer in safe and with low resolution mode and see if it brings any difference.

Procedure could be made easier if you have dual boot setup on fat32 xp. Do you??? Should have asked this before. You stated that your only option is "safemode with command prompt ". Can you get into windows in "safemode with command prompt "? If so, this may not be difficult at all as you have a few options. One would be: Once your in windows and at the command prompt Once you back at command prompt type exit. Either you or I was busy adding to post and we crossed paths.
